Twin Cities Minnesota, The Day of Dignity is and has become a staple of community events that focuses on the dignity and worth of all people, to bring together the Twin Cities community on the basis of self-respect, service to our fellow human beings and to create a harmony we all strive for and to nurture our collective sense of peace, love, integrity and work.
This years’ Day of Dignity will see its 8th annual year in which the Twin Cities joins other cities across the nation for the same purpose of service. People from all over the Twin Cities are encouraged to attend, come by in the best of spirits, smile, hug, build, have intellectual conversations, heal, enjoy the company of others, eat, dance, help others by volunteering or simply just be present in a welcoming space.

This year the Day of Dignity planning committee has been hard at work to bring you an eclectic group of performing artists, dancers, poets, singers, MC’s, DJ’s and hosts to bring the people an entertainment experience that you are sure to remember and to uplift community spirits. The unique dance groups of Midzi and Squad 7 Kingdom are set to perform an explosive set of dance expression, Midzi is a Shona word, that means 'roots'. Midzi is an artists' collective on a mission to promote creative synergy and collaboration among artists of color, positively impact and add value beyond their traditional spheres of influence. Squad 7 is Hip Hop battle crew founded in 2014 that has battled nationally and internationally with various styles of Hip Hop from B-Boying, poppin’ krumpt and locking, their vision is to showcase their individuality, diversity and unity as a crew (Nate).
Blessing the Mic is Meah AKA Mekkah Ismail is a teacher, Poet, Singer/Songwriter, pianist and recording artist, whom hails from the northwest suburbs of Minneapolis, MN. Hassan Shahid will bring acoustic vocals at its’ finest with a laid-back vibe. Yaba Gobana hailing from Minneapolis MN is a singer and writer and has a passion for exploring different vocal ranges and genres in her music and hopes of one day release an album.

Joe Davis will create an atmosphere of social consciousness through art, spoken word and sounds of freedom. Lula Saleh keeps the audience captivated throughout her entire performance, singing tails of struggle, self-healing and reflection, liberation and everything in-between, J-Sully an ambitious MC from Saint Paul who recently won a championship battle called “Shut up and Rap” put on by GO95, Sully is sure to leave everyone inspired.
Jibreel Khumas is a dynamic spoken word artist who will display a freedom fighter energy and a spiritual link to his ancestors. Se’Anna is an up and coming musical spirit in which she displays artistic expression at its’ finest through the art of MC’ing, last spring Se’Anna rocked the opening slot for Twin Cities Dilla Day with an explosive performance.
Twin Cities Hip Hop Pioneer Truth Maze William “Bakeshow” Baker
Northside legend, healer and Twin Cities Hip Hop Pioneer Truth Maze will host and keep the energy fluid along with DJ’s S Dot Madison, Omega Zulu chapter leader DJ Francisco and KMOJ’s own William “Bakeshow” Baker will fill the neighborhood “feel good” music and classic jamz from past to present.
Twin Cities Day of Dignity relies heavily on the folks who volunteer their time and effort to make sure the day goes smoothly and everyone is viewed as important. The event will include free hot meals, a mega food distribution, winter coat give-away, clothes, hygiene kits, health screenings, community resources, a kid bouncy house and much more! Every service provided at DOD is all FREE.

Amaiya Zafar is an amateur boxer, youth mentor and outreach coordinator, personal and group fitness trainer, team captain and youth organizer at the Circle Of Discipline, and social activist. She brought down the hijab ban in amateur boxing in April of 2017. She is still working to overcome more barriers in her sport and career while keeping her focus on the youth in our community.

Reies Romero aka DJ Francisco is a long time Hip Hop activist, DJ, and community organizer, he is the current chapter leader of the Twin Cities Omega Zulu chapter of the newly established Zulu Union, he serves students as a school social worker and is dedicated to ending white supremacy and all forms of oppression.
Reies is the mastermind behind the annual Twin Cities Dilla Day celebrations serves as the President of the MN chapter of the James Dewitt Yancey Foundation and organizes various other Hip Hip Cultural events, he serves as the Community Village Coordinator for the Westside Cinco de Mayo festival and recently taught Hip Hop History this past summer for the CDF Freedom Schools movement and is constantly searching for new ways to engage youth through Hip Hop. Reies is an official speaker with the Islamic Resource Group, serves on the Boards of both Masjid An-Nur and the Muslim Youth Leadership Awards.
Dot, called "one of Minnesota's coolest creatives". From performing on big stages, hosting parties, innovative event planning, to now DJing. The evolution of S Dot has been quite exciting to watch.The sought after artist/dj has been playing at festivals from Solar Music Fest to SxSW and back. By displaying his talent on stage he has attracted major radio personalities requests to create Dj mixes, live interviews, and drops. Most known for his songwriting abilities with witty lyrics and big R&B hooks, he plans to continue to release great music as a Dj/songwriter.

Mekkah Ismail is a teacher, Poet, Singer/Songwriter, pianist and recording artist, whom hails from the northwest suburbs of Minneapolis, MN. She began her journey with music at eight years old when she discovered her fascination with violin and music composition.
Writing poetry closely followed, developing her poetry through writing short stories and poems and sharing them amongst family and friends. Throughout her elementary, middle, and high school experience she has utilized several mediums of musical instruments from violin to the entire range of percussion instruments and saxophones.
Through poetry and music she has graced the stages of her city with her eclectic lyrics and self created neosoul classical fusion sound. Mekkah is currently working on her LP entitled #Afrodisiac, a work promoting the duality of being black, beautiful and navigating love and life.

The collective was formed in 2018 and continually seeks to grow and impact different ends of art communities locally and beyond borders. The performing artists who currently make Midzi come from crews and companies such as Urban Empire Botswana, Strong Movement, Shapeshift & Afoutayi.
The presenters on this day will be a group of dynamic individuals and leaders. Something we have in common is grit and fire to inspire through movement. The piece we will present will be an Afro - Urban fusion of dance forms.
|Born & raised in Minneapolis, Se'Anna developed a very strong passion for music as young child. She began to channel her own rhythmic style at the age of 15 when she tried her hand at poetry for the first time under the influence of a newfound love for Hip-Hop. Now representing an entire spectrum of Rhythm and Poetry as an MC, Se'Anna credits the artistry of Queen Latifah, Yo-Yo, Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth, and A Tribe Called Quest for inspiration.|
