5th Annual Dilla Days features hip hop events at House of Dance and Icehouse on April 7
MINNEAPOLIS — February 7, 2018 — The Twin Cities chapter of the James Dewitt Yancey Foundation will host a pair of events April 7 to celebrate the music of Dilla, aka J Dilla or Jay Dee. Twin Cities Dilla Days returns for a fifth year with two events: a combined hip hop dance and music production battle, and a show featuring legendary producer and DJ Pete Rock, plus several well-known local acts.
Hip hop culture has consistently helped generations of youth use their creativity for something tangible, positive, and productive. We are reaching out to you as someone who believes in the power and vibrancy of Hip Hop Culture to become a sponsor of the 2018 Twin Cities Dilla Days.
Dilla Days honors the legacy of Hip Hop icon James Dewitt Yancey, known as J. Dilla or JayDee, a child musical prodigy who took the field of music production to new heights before his untimely death from lupus at age 32, in 2006.
Attending the inauguration and swearing of the first black mayor of Saint Paul, Melvin Carter, at Central High School was the most unbelievable and most wonderful experience ever to witness and feels great just to be a part of this historical moment not only in the state but also for the entire country.
Last Saturday The U.S. Hip Hop Coalition was invited to catch up with Bone Thugs N Harmony at their live performance in downtown Minneapolis at The Skyway Theatre. So our national director and several local state Hip Hop Coalition members, including Minnesota’s own Bone Thugs Next Gen ‘Dragon Hawk’, dropped in to build with the guys for an upcoming US-HHC, iMG Recordings, Hip Hop Appreciation tour that we are developing with several elders and pioneers within Hip Hop.
On Thursday December 14th 2017 an interfaith community came together at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer located at 285 Dale St N, Saint Paul, MN in unity and remembrance of a tragic event that has become all too familiar these days. The event had a host of multi-faith leaders speak, advocacy training, a national speaker, and even some performances!
